PROJECT IDEOLOGY:
FLEXIBILITY IN ADAPTATION
New Holland buildings comprise 50 'boxes', each 33х9х20 m. They can be adapted to a wide range of uses, from exhibition spaces and auditoriums to lofts. Each box carries a function, ensuring the individuality of the space, each of them becomes a unique architectural experience. Various combinations of the modes of uses provide the site with a sustainable dynamism

INSTEAD OF A NEW BUILDING – A GARDEN
Instead of the historical building that was never completed, one finds the Korabelny (Shiptimber) Grove planted to commemorate the forest that previously provided timber for shipbuilding and a number of multi-use pavilions for large-scale events. This ensemble will form an enclosure that at the same time preserves the impression of wide expanse.

OPPOSITE OF THE PALACE SQUARE
Internal Triangular Square is interpreted as a counterbalance to St. Petersburg’s Palace Square, offering a new public space with informal atmosphere. The visitors can swim and sunbathe in the summer or ice-skate in the winter. The space will be able to accommodate installations, film screenings or rock concerts under an open sky. A system of water sluices enables small-scale navigation and provides for the flexible transformation of the pond into a stage for concerts or skating rink.

EASY ACCESS FOR TRANSPORT/ VISUAL INACCESSIBILITY
While preserving the romantic aura of an impenetrable fortress, the island will still be convenient and accessible to the outside world (1 new shipping canal, 2 new traffic bridges, 5 new pedestrian bridges). A road for cars will divide the territory into two parts: the cultural center and the landscape park with its apartment-hotel and villa. The entrance to the cultural centre will feature a lodge-style lobby and underground parking.
